Creating Art & Sharing Love Since 2009

A Winter’s Day in London: Big Ben, Memories & Magic

London, UK
Posted on January 23 — a special date I hold close to my heart. Today would have been my father’s 70th birthday — the man who inspired my very first trip to London back in 2009. Every time I return to this city, I carry his love for it with me.

There’s something undeniably enchanting about London in the winter. The soft grey skies, the hum of the city waking up, and the golden warmth of a café window pulling you in from the cold.

My morning began at Ralph’s Coffee & Bar — a cozy ritual I’ve already shared with you here With its emerald green velvet booths, polished brass accents, and perfect flat whites, it’s a place that feels like a little pocket of luxury tucked away in Mayfair. It set the perfect tone for the day ahead.

After breakfast, we wrapped ourselves in wool coats and made our way to Big Ben, London’s most iconic timekeeper. Even in the heart of winter — and yes, even with the crowds — there’s something deeply awe-inspiring about standing before this towering symbol of the city.

Despite the bustling tourists (it was busy!), we managed to steal a few moments to soak in the view and snap some photos. The bell’s golden details gleamed against the soft winter light, and for a brief moment, time felt like it stood still.

I found myself thinking of that first trip in 2009 — wide-eyed, camera in hand, my father’s excitement echoing in my ear as he told me, “London is in the TOP of the world.” And now, so many trips later, this city still holds that same magic.

Keeping things timeless with my Kensington trench coat from Burberry — an iconic piece that never fails to elevate even the simplest look. Layered on top: an oversized wool scarf in deep bordeaux, a vintage treasure that once belonged to my grandmother. It's been tucked away for years, but this season’s rich, wine-toned hues made it feel effortlessly current.

Whether it’s your first visit or your fifth, London in winter has a charm that’s hard to replicate — the steam rising from takeaway cups, the glow of antique lamps at dusk, and the timeless elegance of places like Westminster.

If you’re planning a trip (or just dreaming of one), I invite you to dive into more moments like this from my London Travel Diaries — filled with hidden gems, luxe recommendations, and the kind of memories that linger long after you’ve left.
