The gardens, Douro Views and my Summer Style.. I had such a great day at Palácio de Cristal, I had to share here with you!
Located in the heart of Porto, the gardens surrounding the historic Palácio de Cristal are one of those places that feel almost removed from the rhythm of the city. You can walk among enormous trees, flowers and winding paths, discover little corners to sit and simply enjoy the view.
She left the sea for an afternoon in Porto.
The gardens themselves are reason enough to visit, there are flowers everywhere, enormous old trees providing welcome shade during the warmer months, winding paths and beautifully landscaped areas that make the park feel almost like a collection of different gardens within one.

A little summer romance, Porto edition.
By the way, the gardens occupy a site that was historically known as Campo da Torre da Marca. The name came from a tower that stood here from at least the 16th century and served as a landmark for ships approaching the mouth of the Douro. So there really is an old defensive/maritime history beneath the romantic gardens you see today.
One of my favorite things about the gardens is the view: from the higher points of the park, you can see Porto stretching out toward the Douro River, with the city's rooftops and historic buildings creating that beautiful landscape that makes you remember exactly why Porto is so special.
The Douro moves quietly through the landscape, while the city continues its everyday rhythm around it. Every now and then, you can even see the bondinhos passing through Porto, adding another little moving detail to the view.

The gardens were designed in the 19th century by the German landscape architect Émile David, who created a Romantic landscape combining formal gardens with more natural, woodland-like areas. Some of his original design survives today, including the Jardim Émile David, Avenida das Tílias, the woodland and the terraces overlooking the Douro.
For this afternoon, I wore a BELROSIE dress with a flowing silhouette, feminine details and just the right touch of vintage romance. I felt completely at home like a modern princess among the gardens and the castle ruins there..
I love when an outfit and a place seem to belong together. The movement of the dress, the flowers, the old trees and the soft summer light all came together in a way that made the afternoon feel almost like a scene from another time.
The finishing touch? My new golden seashell-inspired clutch.
The moment I saw it, I knew exactly what it reminded me of: a little mermaid discovering the land of men. 🧜♀️
Perhaps it was the golden shell, perhaps it was being surrounded by flowers and greenery with the Douro sparkling below—but carrying it through the gardens made me feel like I had stepped into my own little summer fairytale.
And honestly, isn't that part of the fun of getting dressed? Sometimes an accessory doesn't simply complete a look. It gives you a character to play for the afternoon.

And then there are the peacocks.
Every romantic garden needs a few impossibly beautiful peacocks casually walking around as though they own the place.
One of the corners I particularly loved was the Jardim dos Sentimentos. There is something wonderfully poetic about the name itself—a garden dedicated to feelings, hidden among the trees and paths of Palácio de Cristal. Away from the busier parts of Porto, it feels like a place made for wandering slowly, noticing the flowers, the changing light and all the little details around you.
The gardens aren't simply decorative. They were conceived as a new kind of public leisure landscape in 19th-century Porto. Today they cover around 8 hectares, combining formal landscaping with woodland, botanical specimens and terraces overlooking the Douro. The city highlights species including camellias, magnolias, tulip trees, lindens and araucarias.
A Perfect Summer Activity in Porto
If you're looking for something to do in Porto during the summer that doesn't involve a packed itinerary, I'd put Palácio de Cristal high on the list. Come for the gardens, and stay for the views - bring your camera, wear something you love, find a shady bench, watch the peacocks, look out over the Douro and simply enjoy being there.
It is especially lovely for a slow summer afternoon, when you don't need to rush from one attraction to another.
