After six trips to Paris, I finally checked one of the city's most enchanting landmarks off my list: the Palais Royal. Tucked away just steps from the Louvre, this historic oasis feels like a secret world hidden in plain sight. On a beautiful sunny spring day, I spent the afternoon wandering through its elegant gardens, enjoying a coffee break at Café Kitsuné, and capturing some of the most iconic Parisian photos at the famous black-and-white striped columns. It was the perfect blend of fashion, history, and Parisian charm.
Originally built in 1633 for Cardinal Richelieu, the Palais Royal later became a royal residence before evolving into one of Paris's most beloved cultural landmarks. Today, visitors come to admire its stunning architecture, peaceful gardens, art installations, and elegant arcades lined with boutiques and cafés. Despite its central location, the atmosphere feels remarkably tranquil compared to many of Paris's busier attractions, making it one of the city's most sophisticated places to explore.
One of the highlights of my visit was stopping at Café Kitsuné, nestled inside the gardens of the Palais Royal. Known for its minimalist aesthetic and exceptional coffee, it perfectly embodies modern Parisian lifestyle culture. Sitting beneath the trees with an iced coffee in hand while watching locals and visitors stroll through the gardens felt like one of those simple yet unforgettable Paris moments that make you want to stay forever.
Of course, no visit to the Palais Royal is complete without a photo at the iconic Colonnes de Buren, the striking black-and-white striped columns that have become one of the most photographed spots in Paris. The graphic pattern creates a stunning visual contrast against the historic architecture, making it a dream location for fashion photography and social media content. It is one of those rare Paris landmarks that feels both timeless and contemporary at the same time.
Getting to the Palais Royal couldn't be easier. Located in the 1st arrondissement, it is accessible via the Palais Royal–Musée du Louvre Metro station and is just a short walk from the Louvre Museum, making it an ideal addition to any Paris itinerary. Whether you're visiting Paris for the first time or returning for your sixth visit like me, it deserves a place on your list.
For this elegant spring outing, I chose a classic black-and-white look inspired by the monochromatic palette of the famous columns. My polka dot top paired beautifully with the timeless Parisian setting, while gold jewelry added a touch of sophistication and warmth.
To complete the look, I wore my favorite pieces from Daniel Wellington, whose refined and minimalist designs perfectly complement a Paris wardrobe.
