The Garden & The Fairies: MET Gala 2024 favorite looks

Manhattan, New York, NY, USA
The MET Gala is a necessary event to remind people every year that fashion IS in fact an expression of art.

This year, the theme of the MET' Costume Institute exhibition is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” where historic dresses too old to be worn will be brought back to life with the help of technology. On the red carpet, meanwhile, the dress code is “The Garden of Time,” based on a 1962 short story of the same title written by J.G. Ballard. Vines and flowers were expected and the guests once again didn't disappointed. Take a look at my favorite choices of the biggest night in fashion:

Isabelle Huppert in Balenciaga. From the Maison IG: "Representing 1930s fashion, Isabelle wore a gown based on a wedding dress designed by her ancestors, the Callot Soeurs. From the end of the 19th century until the 1930s, the Callot Soeurs was a prominent lace couture house. The group dressed empress Sissi, was quoted in Marcel Proust literature, and was greatly admired by Paul Poiret. (...)

This creation was brought to life by the skilled artisans of Atelier Anne Gelgard, a renowned Parisian workshop celebrated for its mastery of fabric manipulation and treatment. With 20 meters of material and 300 hours of work, modifications were made from the original design, including changes to the collar, a construction split into two parts, and the addition of shoulder pads.
Unlike the original ensemble, which comprised a blouse and skirt, our rendition seamlessly blends blouse and dress elements. The neckline was refined for a more tailored fit, and internally bound seams of organza add a flawless finish."

Zendaya wore a two different gowns and on the image is the 2nd, my fav one: a vintage ball gown from Givenchy’s spring 1996 couture collection which also happened to be designed by John Galliano. She paired the sweeping ball gown with a dramatic headpiece that mimicked the shape of a bouquet of roses—another vintage grail designed by Philip Treacy for Alexander McQueen’s 2007 collection.

Russell Taylor in custom LOEWE

Elle Fanning looked like an ethereal fairy in a Balmain gown that looked like it was made from glass.
She also wore Cartier jewelry

Two sculpted “birds” appeared to hold up Fanning’s frock, looking seemingly referenced a vase of crystal flowers mentioned in J.G. Ballard’s 1962 short story, from which the Met Gala dress code derives its name.

A Midsummer Night's Dream: Jessica Biel in Tamara Ralph Couture

Da'Vine Joy Randolph in custom GAP by Zac Posen (impossible not to see the 'Brave' reference)

Shakira makes her debut on the #metgala’ red carpet in Carolina Herrera

A dress made for Hollywood Diva: Nicole Kidman in a BALENCIAGA Couture look inspired by Cristóbal Balenciaga’s Couture 1951 collection + Harry Winston jewelry.
