5 Margot Robbie movies to watch before Barbie

Ok guys, Barbie premiere is one week away, I have secured my tickets and the expectation is high! How about you? Not sure yet? Well, as usually, I'm here to persuade help you make up your mind. Today I'm giving you the biggest reason why you should watch Greta Gerwig's new movie: it has Margot Robbie on it! And starring on the leading role.. so, a lot! Not sure about Margot's acting skills? Here are my 5 top (plus 2 bonuses) favorite films with Australian actress and producer that will make you see how good she is doing her job.

Actually I like all of Robbie's films, but anyway... It's clear she's always overcoming herself, choosing her roles carefully - which I believe they all have one thing in common: they're all iconic female characters, some of them based on real, strong (and a bit controversial) women like Tonya Harding, Queen Elizabeth I (in Mary Queen of Scots, 2018) and Sharon Tate (in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, 2019) - both not on the list, but also recommended), some based on famous fictional figures like Jane Porter from 'Tarzan' and Harley Quinn from the DC Comic Books.

I hope you watch them all (including Barbie).

Birds of Prey (2020)

Directed by Cathy Yan. With Margot Robbie, Rosie Perez, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett. As a DC girl (you are tired to know that) I love Margot as Gotham's Queen of Crime: Harley Quinn, not just here but also in both of 'Suicide Squad' (2016 & 2021).

Babylon (2022)

From Damien Chazelle, Babylon is an original epic set in 1920s Los Angeles led by Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie and Diego Calva, with an ensemble cast including Jovan Adepo, Li Jun Li and Jean Smart. A tale of outsized ambition and outrageous excess, it traces the rise and fall of multiple characters during an era of unbridled decadence and depravity in early Hollywood.

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)

Directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Terence Winter, The Wolf of Wall Street is a 2013 American epic biographical comedy crime about audacious, risk-taking Wall Street stockbroker Jordan Belfort.

I, Tonya (2017)

Starring Margot Robbie, Allison Janney, and Sebastian Stan. Competitive ice skater Tonya Harding rises among the ranks at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, but her future in the sport is thrown into doubt when her ex-husband intervenes.

The Legend of Tarzan (2016)

Based on the character Tarzan created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the film stars Alexander SkarsgÄrd and Margot Robbie. Directed by David Yates, 'The Legend of Tarzan' is a thrilling and action-packed adventure into the savagery of the jungle.

Bonus*

Amsterdam (2022)

Directed and written by David O. RussellIn the 1930s, three friends witness a murder, are framed for it, and uncover one of the most outrageous plots in American history. The story is based on the Business Plot, a 1933 political conspiracy in the United States, with a trio we didn't know we wanted but we sure deserve it: Christian Bale + John David Washington + Margot Robbie!

Focus (2015)

Focus is a 2015 American crime comedy-drama film written and directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, starring Will Smith and Margot Robbie. A veteran grifter takes a young, attractive woman under his wing, but things get complicated when they become romantically involved. Besides an unpredictable twist, I love this one because it was filmed in Buenos Aires and has Brazilian actor Rodrigo Santoro in the cast.
