City of Ember: a new sci-fi movie list

In honor of the recently released science fiction series from Apple TV+, Silo, here's a new movie list featuring life in the post-apocalyptic underground world.

Silo is created by Graham Yost based on the 'Wool' series of novels by author Hugh Howey and has Dune's Lady Jessica Rebecca Ferguson starring on it = all the perfectly attractive elements that can get me hooked. I've watched the first couple of episodes and couldn't help but relate to a few classic sci-fi films from the past. I'm bringing the list to you so you can tell me if I'm right or wrong, ok? Take a look:

Brooklyn by night, from my NYC 2016 travel diaries

City of Ember, 2008

By Gil Kenan and with Bill Murray, Tim Robbins and Saoirse Ronan.

For generations, the people of the City of Ember have flourished in an amazing world of glittering lights. But Ember's once powerful generator is failing... and the great lamps that illuminate the city are starting to flicker. Now, two teenagers in a race against time, must search Ember for clues that will unlock the ancient mystery of the city's existence, and help the citizens escape before the lights go out forever.

Dark City, 1998

A neo-noir science fiction film directed by Alex Proyas, with Rufus Sewell, Jennifer Connelly and Kiefer Sutherland.

A man struggles with memories of his past, including a wife he cannot remember, in a nightmarish world with no sun and run by beings with telekinetic powers who seek the souls of humans.

District 13, from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (2014)

Directed by Francis Lawrence and adaptation of the first half of Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins. It is the sequel to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and third film in The Hunger Games film series.

After being rescued from the destroyed arena in the 75th Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen, along with fellow Victors Beetee and Finnick Odair, are taken to District 13, an underground rebel facility hidden beneath the ruins of the old District 13, where she is reunited with her mother and sister Prim.

If you're here for a while now, you must have seen one of my Hunger Games posts. I've read the books and I'm obsessed with the story - unfortunately so similar and getting even closer every day to our reality.

Zion, from Matrix Reloaded (2003)

Written and directed by the Wachowskis sisters, Lana Wachowski and Lilly Wachowski.

In the second chapter of the Matrix trilogy, we're presented to Zion, the last human city on the planet Earth - a massive series of caverns deep under the ruined planet's surface, close to the planet's core, for warmth, power, and protection. Neo (Keanu Reeves), Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) continue to lead the revolt against the Machine Army. In their quest to save the human race from extinction, they gain greater insight into the construct of The Matrix and Neo's pivotal role in the fate of mankind.

Silo, 2023

In a ruined and toxic future, the last thousands of people who survived live in a giant bunker deep underground. After its sheriff breaks a cardinal rule and residents die mysteriously, engineer Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) starts to uncover shocking secrets and the truth about the silo.
