McQueen at the V&A Museum

London, UK
Spotted: new acquisition of V&A Museum, the Atlantis Dress by Alexander McQueen.

Part of McQueen’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection, this dress is now housed at the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London. It stands as a testament to McQueen’s visionary approach to design, blending digital technology, nature-inspired aesthetics, and a forward-thinking narrative.

McQueen’s Plato’s Atlantis collection was inspired by the idea of a future where humanity evolves to adapt to underwater life, a concept reflecting the reversal of evolution. The garments in this collection, including the dress, feature engineered prints that mimic the morphing of species and natural camouflage, suggesting a harmonious blend of human and aquatic life forms.

The dress was part of the V&A’s collection, acquired on the day of McQueen’s passing in 2010. It was also featured in the Savage Beauty exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, which celebrated McQueen’s innovative contributions to fashion. For more information on the dress and to explore other works by Alexander McQueen, you can visit the V&A’s official collection page.
